Introduction

In 2012 Frederic Roudaut published the Points Stratégiques du Corps Jonglé (PSCJ), a list of points on the body on which objects could balance, be gripped, or interact in another way. This list came with abbreviations and even some example videos.

For Rhythmic Catches it is sometimes needed to refer to a point on the body. One could make up a new abbreviation for a new point, but where possible I would recommend to use points from this standard list for easier communication.

To make the PSCJ list more suitable for Rhythmic Catches, I am reposting it here with some minor modifications. Those modifications are explained at the bottom of this page.

Modifications

All of the list has been translated into English. Some minor corrections were made in the abbreviations.

The main difference between the original and this new list is that this one does not differentiate between “balance”, “grip” or “interaction” points like the original list did, as this is irrelevant for Rhythmic Catches. However, for convenience it has been listed what these points can typically be used for, balancing & bouncing or gripping. This is in part inspired from the original list, but I have added my own recommendations too. The original spoke of “interaction points” rather than “bouncing points” but I considered this to be too vague. As I started to make a bouncing points list I noticed it is practically identical to the balance points list, which is why they are now combined. In the list are recommendations only, it may very well be possible to grip objects with points that aren’t marked as such, this depends also on the object and the orientations of the object and the juggler.

The right and left variation abbreviations from the original list have been omitted, as they are irrelevant for Rhythmic Catches. Instead it has been written if the position has a left and right symmetrical version, for example a shoulder appears on the left and the right side but the nose does not.

Individual changes:

Armpit changed from Ar to A as this letter was still available.

One elbow side was added, so inside-side and outside-side can be differentiated. Also, El ends with an ‘l’, so it was changed to E, this letter was already claimed by eye but as this gets very little use Eye was changed to Ey.

“Neck/upper back” was removed as it was confusing to me how it differed from “neck”.

Changed the abbreviations of crotch and elbow to not have an ‘r’ or ‘l’ at the end.
